NPV Founder Dr. Todd Cort, Ph.D., M.S., P.E., Lead CSAP, SA8000 Auditor, works at the intersection of corporate responsibility and sustainable finance. Dr. Cort advises companies on the premise that the best strategies for integration of sustainability will also drive stronger financial performance. Dr. Cort also educates and advises investors and fund managers on methods to effectively integrate sustainability into investment strategies. These integrated investment strategies range from fixed income focused funds to venture capital strategies.
Dr. Cort is a Faculty member at the Yale School of Management and Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He also serves as the Faculty Co-Director for the Yale Center for Business and the Environment (CBEY) and Adjunct Faculty member with the Columbia University Earth Institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and a Professional Engineer’s license in California. Dr. Cort previously served as Director of Sustainability Advisory services for TUV Rheinland and Det Norske Veritas where he consulted on sustainability matters including metrics, risk management, and auditing practices.
Shyla John, Principal, brings over 12 years of combined experience in sustainability, corporate responsibility, and communications to the NPV team. She supports Fortune 500 clients in managing and implementing their CR programs across a variety of areas including ESG strategy development, stakeholder engagement, report development and communications.
Shyla works across multiple industries including food and beverage, oil and gas, consumer products, finance/banking, and ICT, as well as organizations in the non-profit sector. Shyla previously served as a Senior Sustainability Consultant for DNV GL’s Sustainability Advisory Services team and worked as a consultant in Europe, Mexico, and the US. She began her career as an integrated marketing executive managing marketing and public relations campaigns for large consumer brands. Shyla holds a BA in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and an MBA from ESADE Business School.
Sarah Gudernatch Smith, Principal, M.S., LEED G.A., SA8000 Auditor, is a leading specialist in sustainability communications strategies, ESG report production, and stakeholder engagement. Sarah began consulting in 2011 after receiving an M.S. in Sustainability Management from Columbia University. She has significant experience in designing and implementing sustainability programs, CSR/ESG messaging, reporting, and communications, and stakeholder engagement. Sarah is a seasoned writer, excellent communicator, and strategic thinker. She is focused on shared value solutions and believes measurement and communication, compassion and dialogue, and getting things done. Prior to her work in sustainability, Sarah served as a Communications Manager in the nonprofit sector. Her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Communications is from Providence College.
